Welcome to Rumney Models

What We Do
Here at Rumney Models we believe in making things. We believe that building kits or detailing/upgrading models and thereby creating something that you’ve had a big hand in is far more fun and fulfilling than consuming an ever greater quantity of out of the box Chinese plastic.
The emphasis is on quality first and foremost. The items are a result of a lot of research and are as comprehensive and accurate as we can manage. We include as much visible detail as possible whilst keeping within the boundaries of what is (hopefully) sensible within the medium used. Kits are mostly etched brass or nickel silver but there are an increasing number of mixed media affairs with high quality 3D printed resin parts. Anything that involves wheels will include sprung suspension. Kits are ‘rail’ tested to make sure parts fit.
The Rumney Models Range
Most kits are 4mm scale and cover the latter half of the big four, and the BR steam era as that is where my personal modelling interests lie. All are tailored for P4 as this is what I work in, but items may also be built in EM and OO unless otherwise stated in the relevant product section. Wagons dominate but we also do steam loco chassis and detailing along with a range of coach bogie subframes and kits. We do a small range of S scale and 7mm kits that follow on from the 4mm range.
Milk Tanks: Where it all started with underframes and detailing parts for the distinctive 6 wheeled tank wagons. We also supply milk tank ownership plates along with cast springs and axleboxes.
Wagon Underframes: A vast range of sprung etched wagon underframes to suit kit and RTR bodies. These cover most of the major types for steel underframe stock from 1923 to the end of the vacuum brake era. Kits are listed by brakegear type which cover BR Clasp, Morton/Independent/Lifting Link, LMS/Derby/LNER Clasp, Tank Wagons and Grain Hoppers.
Wagon Kits: A mixture of full and part kits for BR 42T Strip Coils, Bogie Bolster Cs and Es, LMS/LNER/BR 22T Plates, GWR Herrings, Wooden ended 5 plank opens, BR 1/801 Fish vans, Gunpowder vans, Izal Palvans, 7’3” 14T Air Ministry and 1930s oil tanks, Lima bogie vee Presflos and GWR Mink Fs.
Wagon Detailing: All sorts of ‘bits’ to complete your models: Coupling hooks, Instanter links and screw couplings, LMS/BR and GWR sheet supports (tarpaulin bars), general purpose wagon detailing frets and specific detailing kits for RTR tank wagons, BR Grampus baskets and detailing.
Wagon Fittings: By far and away the biggest range of post 1923 wagons springs and axleboxes available for UK outline stock. Most standard types are cast in whitemetal but there are an increasing number of specialist types that are 3D printed. Also cast vacuum cylinders and bolsters for the latter build BR Bogie Bolster Cs.
Freight Bogies: A growing range of mixed media bogies for freight stock covering GWR plate, BR plate and LNER Diamond types. Subframes are etched with cosmetic 3D printed sideframes.
Sprung Diesel Bogies: Fully sprung bogies for the Hornby class 31 and sprung pony trucks for the Bachmann peaks.
Coach Bogies: Sprung coach bogie subframes for BR, GWR and LNER types that work like the real thing. Also, a limited range of complete BR and LMS coach bogie kits.
Steam Loco Chassis and Detailing: A mixture of steam loco chassis and detailing for various types, mostly brought about as the result of commissions. Loco chassis for the Alan Gibson F4/5/6 and J15, Craftsman and Bachmann LMS 1P 0-4-4T, NuCast Partners M&SWJR 2-4-0 and Bachmann N class. Subframes for GER Z14 and S23 tenders. Detailing parts for Ivatt/BR Class 2s, MR and LMS loco bogies, GWR Outside cranks.
Miscellaneous: Items that don’t fit elsewhere. CSB tags for Brassmasters hornblocks and Stones ventilators for MR/LMS coaches.
Commissions: A large part of Rumney Models is commission drawing and building work. We specialise in 2D drawings for etching and 3D drawings for 3D printing. Rumney Models has a small industrial SLA 3D printer with which we can produce custom 3D printed parts in house. We also occasionally undertake building work, mostly of models using Rumney Models products.
